Climate Focus Co-Founder Adriaan Korthuis proposes to repurpose half of the road surface of the Dutch city of Rotterdam in an interview published in the print edition of local newspaper AD Rotterdams Dagblad. He believes the city can convert the space to footpaths, bicycle routes, parks and bus and tram lanes. This would be a solution to clean the air in Rotterdam. Korthuis says: “People in Rotterdam are increasingly more conscious that the available public space in the city is limited. Car drivers no longer have the first and most prominent title to that space. People are car drivers only a very small proportion of their time. You’ll be incredibly happier when living in a city with so much more breathing space.”
