Marion Ferrat
Marion is a senior consultant at Climate Focus, working on regional and global implementation of climate policies, in particular in the agriculture and forestry sectors.
Marion has over 10 years’ experience working at the intersection between climate science, policy, capacity building and communications in national administrations and international organizations. After carrying out research in paleoclimatology and climate modeling at universities in London, Hamburg and Beijing, Marion held a role as a climate and energy specialist at the UK Parliament, supporting the British Energy and Climate Change Committee to scrutinize government policy and making recommendations to Ministers. She also took part in parliamentary exchanges and capacity building projects abroad, including in Myanmar, Brazil and Morocco. Subsequently, Marion was Head of Communications and Stakeholder engagement at the IPCC Working Group III (mitigation of climate change) in London, focusing on the summary-for-policymakers of the two special reports on global warming of 1.5°C and on climate change and land.
In 2018, Marion moved back to France and was responsible for setting up the secretariat of the newly created French High Council for Climate. This is the independent expert group tasked with issuing advice and recommendations to the French government on public measures and policies to reduce France's greenhouse gas emissions. Within the secretariat, Marion led analyses on options for decarbonizing France’s building sector. Most recently, she worked as a senior policy expert at the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network in Paris, focusing on tracking the implementation of food and land policies globally, including the extent to which countries address the key transitions needed in these sectors in their international climate pledges.
Marion holds a PhD in paleoclimatology and climate modeling, a Masters in Geophysics and a Masters in Science Communication from Imperial College London.
Marion is based in Paris, France, and is fluent in French and English. The great outdoors, hiking and trekking especially are passions of Marion’s, as is exploring art museums.
