Thiago Chagas

Thiago is head of legal affairs at Climate Focus specializing in climate change regulation and climate finance. He has extensive experience in providing policy advice on a range of topics, including results-based finance, national and sectoral-level carbon pricing instruments, subnational regulatory frameworks for environmental services and REDD+, and institutional options for managing and disbursing climate finance. He has worked with a number of governmental institutions in Latin America and Africa to design large-scale mitigation actions and policy instruments. On a transaction level, Thiago has advised several companies operating in the international and regional environmental markets to implement climate projects and transact related assets. He has also supported European financial institutions and energy utilities in understanding and adjusting to key European climate and energy policies. In his spare time, Thiago enjoys photography and swimming.

Prior to joining Climate Focus, Thiago worked as a consultant at Ernst & Young and as a senior counsel at Ludovino Lopes Advogados in Brazil. Thiago holds degrees from the University of Edinburgh (LL.M in international public law) and Universidade Católica Portuguesa (LL.M in international business law).
