The West African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance hold first workshop in Senegal
The West African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance has held its first workshop in Saly, Senegal. The initiative from West African country representatives in the UNFCCC negotiations aims to enhance the long-term participation of West African countries in international carbon markets and access to results-based climate finance for NDC implementation.
Member representatives convened in Saly, Senegal to further strengthen the sub-regional collaboration and discuss the interrelationship between the role of market mechanisms and the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in West African countries. The main topics of discussion included the enhanced regional cooperation through the Alliance, the need for thorough domestic preparation and greater participation of West African countries in the negotiations on Article 6.
The Alliance has been further operationalized by its members to address the long-term legal set-up and initiation of thematic working groups. Climate Focus supports the Alliance as a technical partner and steering committee member.
