Franziska Haupt

Franziska is managing partner at Climate Focus and the executive director at Climate Focus Berlin. She provides advisory service to foundations, governments, multilateral institutions and the private sector on sustainable land use, REDD+ and climate change related issues. Her work is focused on deforestation-free commodity supply chains in the agriculture sector, sustainable mining and infrastructure, climate change mitigation in the beef sector, and on the design of incentives and institutional frameworks for sustainable land use. She leads the progress assessment of the New York Declaration on Forest (NYDF), a collaborative effort by 28 research organizations and NGOs to measure progress towards its ten goals. She is the lead author of the 2020 NYDF Progress Report Balancing forests and development: Addressing infrastructure and extractive industries, promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Prior to joining Climate Focus, Franziska worked as an international consultant for the Kyrgyz government in a World Bank project and as a consultant at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). She has been actively involved in the field of climate change and forestry since 2006. Franziska is passionate about classical music.

Franziska holds degrees from the Technical University of Munich (BSc in forest science) and Humboldt University Berlin (MSc in agricultural economics). During her studies, she attended a one-year exchange program at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
